NEHAWU KZN Condemns The Conduct Of A SARS Senior Manager Based At The Durban Trescon Offices

Friday July 15, 2022

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal condemns the conduct of a South African Revenue Services [SARS] Senior Manager at the Trescon Durban offices of SARS.

On the 13th of July 2022, while our members were protesting peacefully outside the Durban offices, Mr Senzo Nkuna, Senior Manager in Compliance Audit Division insulted our members and leadership of the union. He further made threats of calling hitman’s to deal with the striking workers and assaulted one of our members.

It is becoming clear that Nkuna’s intention on that day was to provoke our members who were protesting peacefully and instigate tensions between workers and security.

The union in the province would like to warn SARS that such threats won’t be taken lightly and as such, we will be opening a criminal case against Mr Nkuna and also be report him to the senior leadership of SARS.

It is shocking that after 28 years of democracy there are managers who still view striking workers as criminals despite their right to strike being enshrined in the constitution. Such backwardness has no place in our society and we hope both SARS and law enforcement will be swift in dealing with such.
